SINGAPORE – This has to be the weirdest assignment I’ve signed up for, I tell my friends. Alongside hundreds of other “travellers”, we made our way on Saturday (24 Oct) to Changi Airport’s Terminal 3 to board Restaurant A380 @Changi, Singapore Airlines’ pop-up restaurant affair.
Singapore’s flag carrier introduced a slew of “Discover Your Singapore Airlines” suite of experiences – after cutting thousands of jobs and grounding most of their planes. The Restaurant A380 @Changi offers ‘travellers’ the opportunity to dine on two of its A380 superjumbo planes over a chosen course of time.
According to AFP, more than 400 diners checked in the airport and underwent the usual security checks –body and bag checks – before making their way to B1 to B4 lounges for lunch and dinner.
The Lee family, who was waiting at the lounge with their son, shared with Yahoo Lifestyle SEA that this experience was a gift from their brother-in-law, Mr Kee. “So far, it has been a very interesting and nice experience. SIA and their partners really rolled out their services – from check-in to the warm hospitality and services – they really tried!”
Mr Kee added: “As two trips got cancelled this year, it was nice to relive this ‘flying’ experience and it has been a very nice event so far. It’s nice to have the touch-and-feel experience onboard. SIA has spent a lot of money to put out these experiences, and we would like to support our home brand.” Mr Kee bought five tickets for the meals in economy class for the family.
At The Restaurant 380@Changi, the most expensive option on the menu is a S$600 eight-course meal in a first-class suite while the cheapest is a S$50 three-course meal in economy class. The prices exclude GST.
Yahoo Lifestyle SEA boarded the aircraft and tried the S$300 meals in the business class section. Here’s what we thought of the experience:
