Ice Cream Shutter
Spun Ice Cream, the frozen sweet shop that focuses on liquid nitrogen cooling methods as of December 2015, is now closed on 1912 East 7th Street in East Austin. Its last day was on Sunday, December 1. The reason behind the shutter is because co-founders Ashley Cheng and executive pastry chef Christina Cheng declined to renew the lease. They already had to close their auxiliary location on Burnet Road because host restaurant Noble Sandwich Co. closed (it’s being turned into an expansion of Chinese-American restaurant Old Thousand). The ice cream, however, will live on through catering as well as the shipping container shop next to the Whole Foods in the Domain.
New San Marcos Barbecue
Austin-based barbecue restaurant Green Mesquite BBQ is expanding with a new location in San Marcos, which should have opened as of yesterday, Sunday, December 1, as reported by Community Impact.
Chocolate Pop-Up Shop
Texas chocolate shop Srsly is running a temporary pop-up store in Austin during the holidays. It’s found at 4402 South Congress Avenue from noon to 6 p.m. Thursday through Sunday until Tuesday, December 31. On deck are all of the chocolate shop’s flavors, other candies, advent calendars, etc.
Beer Art
Both Brentwood holiday dive bar Lala’s Little Nugget and Rainey Street bar Stagger Lee are offering customizable foam art on beers, where guests can submit photos (including phone photos) through the ripple machine.
