Little Women star Florence Pugh got an ice cream maker for her birthday. So even though it's the dead of winter, she naturally decided to spend her Friday inside making peanut butter ice cream.
But the anonymous gift giver forgot to give Florence an important memo: homemade ice cream isn't exactly the easiest thing to make.
"No one told me that it's really f*cking complicated to make it. Excuse my language, but I mean, woozier," Florence lamented while documenting her journey on Instagram. "As well as not, you know, curdling the eggs, which is a new thing that I'm learning how to do."
"Turns out that I chose a Michelin star recipe to make ice cream, which is probably why it's so complicated," she admitted.
However, it wasn't enough to deter this at-home chef. And judging by the dance Florence did after trying her own ice cream, which consisted of a little raising the roof, this actress must be more of a pro in the kitchen than she initially led us to believe.
"When I was a kid, I'd always get so sad when my gran would get the spatula out, because it meant there was no ice cream, or not even ice cream but no mixture to lick out of the bowl," she recalled of her time in the kitchen in days past.
Preach, Florence. You are all of us. (Almost all of us. I'm actually allergic to raw eggs and could sadly never lick the mixing bowl growing up. Yes, I was an incredibly deprived child.)
From there, Florence made the incredibly genius discovery that her NutriBullet can also double as a phone stand, allowing her to document her best effort to carefully pour her mixture into the ice cream maker.
While she didn't make a mess, as I surely would have done, she did start to get ... just ... a ... little ... bored. Ice cream making, after all, isn't speedy.
"It got boring, so I decided to f*ck it up a bit," Florence said when she got tired of waiting. "Right, so I saw that there's this tiny little latch, which means that I can put random things in there. like, I don't know bits of chocolate, some Lindt. I'm hoping this is the right time to do it. I got bored. "
Florence's rebel move made her feel like a true Michelin star chef. I must say, I do feel just like Martha Stewart every time I make one of her recipes.
"I'm just chucking them in left, right and center," Florence continued. "I'm a bit kooky. I'm feeling a bit cocky — that's what it is."
And judging by the final results, Florence has reason to be cocky. If her day job doesn't work out for some reason, I'm sure she has a bright future in ice cream making.
For those of you interested in trying your hand at ice cream at home, Florence said she was gifted a Whynter ice cream maker. It appears to be the 2.1-Quart stainless model.
But did you know that you don't actually need a super, duper fancy ice cream maker to whip up homemade ice cream? You just need a plastic baggie and 15 minutes. (CC: Florence)
