R. House is getting a new ice cream stall with some local flavor.
The food hall is replacing Little Baby’s Ice Cream a Philadelphia-based company that shut down on Nov. 27, with Taharka Brothers Ice Cream, a beloved Baltimore business founded by Sean Smeeton.
With flavors such as Honey Graham, Cardamom, Key Lime Pie, and Salty Caramel, and a business model rooted in social change and employing city youth, Taharka Brothers has quickly become a staple in the city.
At R. House, they’ll be serving all those flavors, as well as one-offs inspired by local happenings and the changing of the seasons.
“We could not be more excited about this new location, especially given that we make the ice cream at our factory in Hampden so close by,” Smeeton said in a statement. “We believe this location will make it even easier for our fans to enjoy Taharka Ice Cream, and R. House offers a unique venue and a chance for us to host events–like our Ice Cream Social–that help promote our brand and a positive image for Baltimore.”
Last year’s social, which included a guest appearance by Ben Cohen of Ben & Jerry’s, featured scoops of ice cream, music and Q&A sessions on politics and culture with local leaders.
Taharka Brothers, which also has a location in Broadway Market, will hold a grand opening at its new R. House stall on Dec. 19 with guest scoopers Pork Chop of 92Q, rapper DDm and writer D. Watkins each working one-hour shifts from 5-8 p.m.
A soft opening starts two days earlier at 11:30 a.m.
