One of Phoenix's oldest ice cream parlors has reopened with a new home.
On Wednesday, Dec. 18, Mary Coyle Ol’ Fashion Ice Cream held its grand reopening at the Tapestry on Central, a condominium complex on the northwest corner of Central Avenue and Encanto Boulevard, not far from the Heard Museum.
Mary Coyle Ol’ Fashion Ice Cream has served housemade ice cream since 1951 and was previously located on Seventh Street near Bethany Home Road. The longstanding ice cream shop closed in April 2019 when its space was sold to a redevelopment company.
What to expect at the new Mary Coyle
The ice cream parlor offers more than 20 flavors of ice cream, sherbet and sorbet and fans can expect a menu that will be "basically the same," owner Larry Healey told The Arizona Republic in August.
In January, Healey's business partner Howard Kunkle will take over the business, reported ABC15.

Kunkle, who remembers going to Mary Coyle with his children in the 1990s, told ABC15 he wants to keep the ice cream shop's traditions alive.
Fans will recognize the familiar black-and-white checkered tile and the pink-and-white striped wall at the new location.
The ice cream shop is named after founder Mary Coyle, who moved from Ohio to Arizona and brought her ice cream recipes with her, The Republic previously reported.

Along with its 16% butterfat ice cream made in house, the parlor was also known for its handmade waffle cones and — only for the courageous eaters — the "Grand Canyon," consisting of 11 pounds of ice cream in 11-13 flavors, plus whipped cream, cherries, six toppings and granulated peanuts.
