HOLLAND, MI -- Hudsonville Ice Cream announced it will bring back the South Haven favorite Sherman’s Ice Cream for the 2020 season.
The family recipes that originated in South Haven in the 1950s ceased production in May.
Sherman’s unique flavors like Grasshopper, Chocolate Malt Supreme and Cappuccino became summertime staples in West Michigan — a tradition CJ Ellens, an owner of Hudsonville Ice Cream, didn’t want to lose.
“We understand the importance of maintaining the quality of a historic product people know and love, and that’s why we’re proud to produce Sherman’s Ice Cream next year," Ellens said.
The Sherman’s Dairy Bar on Phoenix Street and will remain open. The shop will be the primary spot where ice cream will be sold. Additional distribution of three-gallon tubs to shops has not yet been determined.
Both companies are family-owned and take pride in the old fashion style scoops.
Partnering with a company that has roots in Michigan made the deal even sweeter, Bob Eisenman, owner of Sherman’s Ice Cream from 1989-2019, said.
“Sherman’s has a rich family heritage with a strong local loyalty, much like Hudsonville, so we are happy to partner with them to continue that legacy,” Eisenman said.
